Getting Ready

Oh to move with the leaves
Huge drops cause me to squint
Flinch and cringe
Faint booming bass beats sound
The dog whimpers
Then hides
The goldfish swims around
Forgets its name
And swims around again
The paper walls begin to thump
In time with the bass
Rising from below
The rain flies in
The squeal of closing windows is heard
The lights flicker
And a car alarm goes off
The cranky wrinkled old lady
Nags at her charges
The boy in blue howls with excitement
And I get ready to sleep.
