You told me everything would change
Once the sun went down.
You came to me
Just to testify,
That I could
If I wanted
To touch the sky.
You told me you were right behind,
Helping me to quench
That insatiable
Thirst of mine.
I tried.
Holding on to that promise
My lifeline, of sorts.
I thought I could
Do what I do
I just couldn’t wait
Not for anyone
But when I looked back
Searching,
Wanting,
Needing,
There was not even a shadow.
